Come Discover Local Diving with Northwest Scuba!!!!!!
Would you like to get out and meet new divers? Feel like getting your toes wet but no ocean nearby? Interested in seeing what the local dive scene has to offer? Come join Northwest Scuba as we explore our local dive scene using the PADI Discover Local Diving program!

Our first goal is to get average or inexperienced divers out into the open water. The biggest hurdle for new divers is finding time to practice, but we can’t always make it out to the ocean. Gaining experience in local, interesting lakes, while being guided by a PADI Divemaster or Instructor, is the best way to keep your skills current.

The second goal is to get experienced divers to explore the open waters in Alberta. Many people are not aware of the numerous lakes in Alberta which offer an enjoyable and fulfilling dive experience. With our Discover Local Diving Program, we hope to show you how to safely enjoy and navigate our local lakes, allowing you to feel confident enough to explore them on your own.

Further, we always have people coming into shop looking for local dive partners. At the Discover Local Diving events, it is perfectly acceptable if you do not have a dive partner – in fact, lots of people in attendance will not. One of the main reasons we run these events is to introduce divers to other members of the dive scene. Last year we had a core group of attendees who by the end of the summer were renting gear and going on diving excursions on their own. This is the goal of the program, and we hope to see it continue this summer!

Often, people tend to shy away from cold water diving. The most common complaint is that the water is too cold. During your open water class you are much more likely to get cold while you are sitting in one spot practicing skills; however, when diving for fun you are always moving! This increases your body temperature, warming up the water in your wetsuit and keeping you warmer. Secondly, people tend to complain that cold water diving is simply too much work. Our response is that as you gain experience as a cold water diver this helps increase your comfort level and overall diving skills, making future warm water diving easier and more enjoyable!

We also offer certain specialties during the Discover Local Diving events, including: drysuit, Peak Performance buoyancy and underwater navigation, among others. If you are interested in taking the Master Scuba Diver Challenge, you can come out and get a certification for every trip! Please feel free to call the store and ask for more information.

Discover Local Diving will be held at 3 main lakes in the area: Narrow Lake, Twin Lake and Clear Lake! We will also be running a few trips to Jasper to explore lakes other than those which most people were certified in. We also will be participating in the Alberta Underwater Council events representing PADI and Northwest Scuba!

The cost is $25 and includes 2 guided dives but DOES NOT include gear. Gear rental cost fluctuates depending on which gear you own. However, in certain specialty classes, gear may be included.

We hope to get a great group of regulars and go have some fun!

We will be running the Discover Local Diving program 2 times each month with more being added as demand increases. One on a Thursday night and one on a Sunday morning each month. We will be diving three main lakes in the local area. Scheduled Dates are as follows:
