David- The story I related above was at Dutch Springs. I took my AOW there, and had to go down past that second thermocline on my deep dive.
Sometimes you can go with just the 7mil. For ocean diving in August and September I go with a pair of reef gloves and no hood.
You wouldn't catch me dead at Dutch Springs without a hood at any time of the year
