I wonder if you are referring to the "Back Mine" Quartz and Feldspar. This was another of the "Reekie exploited" flooded mines. I put at least 50 dives in it but have heard access has been blocked back in '93 0r '94. There are many of this type of site scattered from the Gatineau's to Smiths Falls and farther.

Hey Mike!
Do you by any chance have directions to the "back mine". A friend of mine headed up there with directions and wound up driving around all the backroads in the area and never found it. What a wasted trip. It would be great to get detailed directions.

Hmmmm....and i thought you were the equipment specialist!

I love equipment for sure and I love to learn more about it everyday from all you divers with such knowledge!

Looking forward to your answers!

Say gang,

It looks like some of you take this pretty seriously. Especially this James fella!

:dazzler1:

Serious enough. The concern here is for diver safety. Even a cave with good vis is no place for the untrained. There is nothing there worth risking your life for. Just trying to advise on the best way for 'diverindeep' to expanding on his diving experience.

oh sh!t, It has been about 13 years since I have been there. In fact, Its been about that long since I've been out of Canada. I know I can still easily drive it (I used to live there - just about) but to describe it not-a-chance. Here's my best recollection. From Ottawa take the Queensway East past Orleans. When you get to Cumberland cross the Ottawa R. on the Ferry (if its still there) OR From Hull, drive to Buckingham. From here I can't remember :( You either keep to the right OR keep to the Left and go through Thurso (plug your nose - it used to stink). From Buckingham you had less than a 1/2 hour till you arrive at the mine. You make a right onto a dirt road just in front of small mountain. Stay on main gravel rd. When it intersects/ends with another dirt/gravel road go left (get some speed you must make it up the hill. Once up the hill stay on this road, it will end facing the mine (an ominous site!) Just before the mine is a small pond - from the run-off, on the right. The road is blocked a considerable distance from the mine entrance. Keep in mind the little that I did explain is what the area looked like more than a decade ago. Now if you want a description of the inside of the mine... :)
