I've been to Palau and I'd say check into a No-Tell motel - I stayed at a Motel Six that was very reasonable, and enjoy the island, and a few more dives - still my all-time favorite dive place. There's also a high-end Four Seasons kinda place where I spent my no-dive day getting one of their spa treatments - including the cucumber on the eyes thing.

Our last trip to Palau we combined with a trip to Truk Lagoon. We joked that we had an extra week so decided to stop over in Chuuk to do quick side trip. It was our second time whereas for most others it was their first trip and a bucket trip. We all got a chuckle and had a great time.
