after speaking with the tech at the lds, I have learned that regs are adjustable and can be "tuned" to your preferences. Things like ambient pressure and what not can be tweeked. Its just what I was told, do not know for a fact.
 
Yes, regs are adjustable. You can change lots of things about them. For example, most people dive with octos that are "Detuned," making them a little harder to breathe from, but less likely to freeflow all the time. They might have their primary second tuned very light to be extremely easy to breathe from--if they took it out of their mouth, itmight freeflow extremely easily.

If you are renting equipment though, well, the shops probably tune all of their regs similarly. This is one reason to buy your own equipment:)
