Yes I am newly certified I've just use the rental regulators they have there but at times felt like I was constricted when I was breathing.

First of all sort out whether the constricted breathing is a problem with the reg or it is a manifestation of your reaction to stress underwater, or other issue. Until I resolved this issue I would not be buying a reg yet. Discuss this issue with your instructor and/or the rental outfit and use some other regs and see what happens.

Buying used gear is great if you know what you are looking at, especially if you are a DIY enthusiast like myself. I have bought some dogs, but I don't pay $75 for antiquated gear in questionable shape from a defunct manufacturer.

Unless you want to wait until you can evaluate used gear, I would check the dive shops in your area for serviced used regs that they would stand behind. Otherwise go for new lower end reg from a shop or internet. Personally I've had excellent luck with Sherwoods, but any major manufacturer makes good equipment.

Good Luck
