I am interested in changing the length of the hose to my SPG. Is this something I can do myself? If so, are there any potential problems of which I must be aware? Thanks.

Uhhh.. unless there is some new technology I'm not aware of, it's about as easy as changing a light bulb.

I assume from your response that removing the SPG from the hose is as simple as disconnecting the hose from the first stage? The SPG does not need to be calibrated or anything like that after removal?

No calibration should be required at all for a hose change. Though it MAY be a good time to have the instrument checked for accuracy anyway.

The SPG end of that hose has a spool (spindle) which is a thin narrow brass tube with a hole through the center and 2 small o-rings which is what allows the SPG to swivel. If any SW has reached the spool, it may have some corrosion and be difficult to remove. Slow gentle persuation usning hot, cold, and fingers is the best solution. Pliers often mean a broken spool. The o-rings need to be lubed before assembly. If the spool is stuck or if you don't have the lube then it might be best to drop $10 at the LDS & get it done right.

Get a new HP spool when you change out your hose. It's easy to do and while you have the hose off, you might as well put in a new spool.

Also be very carefull not to twist the hex nut in relation to the gauge body........

Good Luck

Hi CT Dave
If your SPG is incorporated in a plastic/rubber housing you may have to immerse it in warm water to remove gauge & hose ***. do make sure that you use 2 spanners to remove hose coupling.1 on gauge 1 on coupling. UK HP hoses come with the brass ,sealed ferral, that lets hose swivel. it's a straight forward job good luck.
