Sea urchin die off and algae overgrowth has been reported in the Caribbean

Unfortunately, it has been recently reported off Israel and is threatening the Mediterranean and Red Seas

Sean urchins have almost disappeared here in Italy, and are now considered an endangered species.
It is not allowed anymore to catch them for eating their gonades...

And in the Croatian side of the Adriatic there has been a decline in population over the last 5 years, while the ministry opened the fishery completely due to the huge demand in Italy.
Now there are no limits on how much you are allowed to harvest if you have a commercial permit, wonder how long till the whole ecosystem crashes.
