My first hand me down car was a 1979 Vdub rabbit diesel. I could bark the tires in third gear and got 55 mpg. Same car now gets 40mpg but is "cleaner"... How???
Front wheel drive is almost as good as 4wd and it was a 4 door. Oh yea, both front seats laid back into a nice little teenage love nest. Then I got the Jeep P/U with a shell and carpeted bed, nicer teenage love nest!
