If you have plenty of money, plenty of RAM and plenty of time to learn how to use it, Adobe Photoshop is unequalled -- but it's one serious piece of software. If you can stomach a 42Mb download, you can get a 'tryout' version from http://www.adobe.com/

Paint Shop Pro is a popular and cheaper alternative. Evaluation version (a mere 32Mb) at http://www.jasc.com/

Second.

Also, if you need sometime that can give you a quick fix on bulk, I'd like to recommand another free s/w, Picasa2.

fwiw, I think the OP found his answer in 2001.
At least he hasn't been back on SB since 2003.

Hehe! :D Didn't catch that. :shakehead

Check out the Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/):

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

If you don't want to pay big bucks there's always Gimp. It's open source and does pretty decent job.
seconded, but I haven't used it much for photos that I have taken.

Actually, I am surprised that no one recommended Microsoft Office photo manager that comes free with XP/Office. You can do some great simple editing with that. It isnt photoshop of course. How much did you all pay for your photoshop??? hehe.

Most people cant/don't use .01% of the features and functions in photoshop. Ask youself: do you know what a a histogram is before you plunk down the cash for it. It really is an high end piece of work.
