I want to get a canaster light next!

I dive mostly tropical reefs and wrecks.

I dive South Fl. Reefs, Wrecks, open water drifts. I hunt lobsters, just getting in to speer fishing. I go to the Keys some and have Done some beach diving. I have 45 dives and looking for many more. If I did not have to work so much. I would have 145.
I have a Sea Quest PRO BCD, Love it. aqualung Legend reg. Faber steel lp108 tanks. pony 19' we th titan, and aqualung LX second. 2 oceanic versa pro computer.
X-pertzoom split fins, Wenona knifes 3" on bcd and 5" on lag. A good real and 2 Lights.

2nd Pelican sabre backup light
Jump/gap spools as necessary

There may be additonal bits of gear that I add/subtract that isn't listed, but that takes care of the major parts of my gear config for most dives.

For comfort:
Scubapro Classic BC; Oceanic Probe BC (There are many comfortable ones out there)
Sherwood Maxumis, Blizzard, or Oasis (Atomic probably best but I like the moister retention of the Sherwood) I have not tried the Sherwood just hearsay and many years of hearing how people really like them.

Cressi Matrix or Big Eyes Mask
Apollo Bio Fins

For More Hard Core:
Scubarpro Classic BC
Apeks; Scubapro;Atomic; Aqualung; Zegale; Oceanic
Standard Octo extra length hose
Oceanic VT3 or Subapro Smart Z Air intergrated computer (plus standard gauge)

I currently dive with:
Oceanic Probe BC
Oceanic Omega Reg
Ocianic Delta Octo
Oceanic Gauges
Cressi Matrix

Having recently upgraded by gear. The words of the staff at my LDS ring in my ears. For single tank recreational type diving in tropical water only...."Do yourself a favor, buy a simple aluminium backplate with single tank adapter (Halcyon eclipse 30 lbs). You'll eventually upgrade to it anyway, so save yourself the money and hastle and buy it now".

I wish I had listened. Having just sold my old jacket BCD on ebay and upgraded to a BP/W, I'm kicking myself.

I guess it's a learning experience.

I now diving the following....

Aqualung Legend LX and Titan LX Ocy
Halcyon eclipse 30 lbs BP/W BCD (got rid of my Oceanic Probe)
Oceanic ATOM v1 air integrated computer (got rid of my Suunto Stinger)
Bare 2mm full length wetsuit
Mares Quattro Open Heel fins (got rid of my split fins)
Olympus 5060 camera and olypmus underwater housing

Love it!!!!

This is a nice setup for my warm water single tank reef dives:

0.5 mm wetsuit
3mm hood and vest just in case it gets a little chilly
Lightweight Alu plate & sta (my own design)
30 lbs wing (Oxycheq, OMS or Halcyon)
Apollo XT
Scubapro MK25/S600 octo S600 or Apeks FST/XTX 200 octo XTX200

For a slightly more technical setup:
3mm medium to high density suit with hood
Halcyon, OMS or Oxycheq Alu plate
2 or more sets of Apeks FST/XTX 200
A couple of VR3
Jetfins

those "depends on who" replies are so boring!*rolls eyes* my perfect set (based on research and my weakness for marketing haha) for warm water diving:

Oxycheq Low profile STA
Diverite "quick-draw" sleeve for DSMB

Dacor Viper Octo (it looks so cool! side exhaust too)
Tusa SC230T depth & pressure gauge

---Mask, fin & suit---
Atomic Aquatic Frameless
Apollo Bio Pro (yellow, with spring straps)
Henderson Instadry 3mm (is this overkill for tropical diving?)
O'neill tropic 3mm dive booties

---Lights---
Barbolight U15
Barbolight U04 (backup)

---Accessories---
Carter personal float
Oceanic PSD
Custom Divers Reel
Diverite Shears

---Computer & Compass---
Suunto D9
Suunto SK-7 wrist compass

i havent decided on which knife yet though

My perfect set would be a set of steel 45s on a harness with a Royal Aqua Master regulator and UDT fins and Voit oval mask. A 1.0 MM skin would be nice to keep the bite off. For time my DOXA SharkHunter watch, my ScubaPro 0-500 helium depth guage and a old Suunto wrist compass. Don't forget a knife, I like my old SeaHawk. Don't need anything else, don't need no stink'n BC. N

G'day,

You can read about what I think is great set of gear for my experience level and the diving I'm doing right now at www.borrett.id.au/interests/scubagear.htm

Is is "perfect"? Well probably not. But I'm such a newbie, how would I know what "perfect" is.

However, in selecting my kit, I've been careful to choose gear that I think can evolve and adapt as I progress through scuba diving. I didn't want to buy something that's okay for now, but might be totally unsuitable for what I might be doing in 12 months time.

Best Regards, Lloyd Borrett.
