Rode the train in December from Cancun to Campeche only a day or 2 after it started running. They were still working out the bugs. The route that train took didn't take us by any cenotes as far as we observed. Other than an hour or so delay departing, it was a very pleasant alternative to driving or a bus, but not really faster. I understand they shut it down the day after our trip. My son, whose regularly makes the trip because his in-laws live in Campeche, dealt with making all the arrangements for us. Returning to Cancun for New Years in a 3 car caravan was faster and less expensive for the 13 family members that made the trip.
