Hello all, my friend and I are Taking a dive trip to cozumel in a couple months. This will be our first time going on a trip during the winter months. We are from Minnesota and we are paranoid about getting sick or stuffy nose/ plugged ears/ basically something that could prevent us from equalizing. Is there any tips or tricks to stay healthy? I know that’s a dumb question but what can one person take if they start feeling something come on. It would be our luck if we got sick right as we arrive and end up not being able to dive. Thanks!

My wife and I take a multi vitamin, and add a D3 and zinc.
Ive been doing this for the last 4 years and Haven't gotten sick at all. (not even covid)
This has worked for us and a few others that we dive with

I stay really aware of my sinuses year round for exactly this reason. At the first sign of congestion, I start using my NeilMed (basically a neti pot) to clean things out and keep them irrigated. I also make sure I'm taking decongestants when this happens (not while diving, just when feeling something coming) to make sure I don't give anything a chance to start growing up there. Have fun in Coz!!!

And anything with pseudoephedrine is illegal in MX, so you’ll have to weigh the risks if you decide to take them with you to MX. Plenty of threads in the MX forum.

I agree with taking Zinc. I also use the Zicam nasal swabs if I feel the onset of a cold.

My main concern is usually the airplane ride down. I tend to take wither a multi-vitamin or Airborne for a few days prior to flying, and have some orange juice on the plane for some extra vitamin C.

Once in Cozumel, between doing beach/water/outdoors activities and the fact that most restaurants are actually still somewhat open to the outside air circulation, I'm not really that concerned with catching things there. We also bring Zyrtec and Flonase just in case.

Just returned from Cozumel, very good weather, no El Nortes during our visit. I caught a bad cold (no, not Covid, just a cold, we have never had Covid) afterwards and I think I got it on the return flights. My wife and I both wore our N95 masks going but not returning. I was never big on the mask thing but they can provide a modicum of protection when stuffed up next to strangers, as soon as I can get a few feet between me and them off comes the mask. We both began to keep our distance from people two weeks prior to the trip, semi-isolation. We certainly did not go to extremes, just using due caution, continuing with our normal routines. Long before Covid, when going on an expensive trip, we took similar precautions, no masks of course then, but now, why not.

once you feel it coming on it is probably too late
maybe wear a mask- in and out of the water
