Celestial stuff, Orcas, Scuba Show, and more
(please scroll down for details)
Starting off with stuff celestial . . .

AURORA BOREALIS - There have been some simply spectacular shots of the aurora posted on FaceBook over the past two nights. Sadly, at least in Westwood, there has been a marine layer that eliminated any chance of us seeing tings. However, there have been some predictions today that we might get another shot at seeing the aurora tonight AND (at least as I'm wiring this at 6PM) we've got clear skies. So fingers crossed.

SUNSPOTS - I couldn't see the aurora but I hooked up the Seestar to see if I could catch some of the sunpsots that are causing all of this commotion and came away with these two shots. I think the big sunspot on the right side of the pix is what's causing all of this:

ORCAS STILL IN THE AREA - FYI, still seeing FB posts about orcas still hanging out in our waters. Seems like most of them are around Orange County but if you've ever thought about going out for whale watching, this seems like a good time of the year to do that.

SCUBA SHOW IS COMING UP - Remember that this year it's at the L.A. Convention Center, not in Long Beach. Saturday and Sunday, June 1 & 2 are the dates. We'll be doing our "Why Divers Die" panel on Saturday at 4PM as usual. You can find out more about the show, who's exhibiting, who's speaking, and everything else at this link: https://scubashow.com/

HELPING TO SAVE CORALS - We're in the midst of the fourth global coral bleaching event in recorded history and scientists have come up with a novel concept which they're calling a Noah's Ark for corals. Basically, they want to get healthy specimens of all the various coral species around the world, store them in a safe place, and then they can try re-growing corals to re-plant and re-populate. Many aquariums already have coral propagation programs so it's certainly something that's feasible but which has never been tried on this scale. You can read more about it here: NOAH'S ARK FOR CORALS.

COMING TO YOU FROM ROATAN NEXT WEEK - We arrive in Roatan next Saturday around Noon so hope to have three dives under our belts and will report to you from Anthony's Key next week. And be sure to check our both the Ken Kurtis and Reef Seekers FaceBook pages as we'll try to post our Daily Top 10 pix each day of the trip.

That'll do it for now. Have a great week and let's go diving soon!!!
