I had something cheaper like this: [URL="http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=Laser"]http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=Laser

It wasn't powerful enough for much, in particular, i couldn't get my buddy's attention with it, so I sold it.

however, mine was red. i've heard fish will chase after the green dots, but i have no first hand experience to confirm or debunk that. so in short, that laser pointer might be ok depending on what you want to use it for, what do you expect from it? don't expect other divers to notice a small green dot unless you first get their attention pointed to it by other means first.

Floater, the following is unverified by me yet but this is what I am told.

The green beam is supposed to be visible all along its path, not just at the termination point. If this is true then I think this would be considerably more useful than the red beam, especially for signalling purposes. I will most likely invest in one so I'll keep the board posted on results unless someone beats me to it.

I have never used a laser under water but I would imagine most places have enough "stuff" suspended in the water to make any sort of laser visible - similar to chalk dust with a regular laser.

I would imagine the laser would do the same type harm as a laser would to a human eye, maybe a reduced effect because of the water but still some I would think.

maybe, but i still think it would be too weak to grab your boddy's attention without further prompting - at least on day dives within rec depths (i.e. sunlight). if the fish do really chase after the green lasers, they could be useful for photographers - or even better, for a photographer with a buddy using the laser to bring the fish into focus, if they work...

but please keep us posted, i'm curious too and the scuba community needs these reports.
