What books/magazines you recommend?

So far the only book on the subject that I really liked was "The Cave Divers."

For self-improvement I am considering buying
Doing It Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving by Jablonski
Do you think it is the best choise or do you know of something better?

As for magazines, Sport Diver, Scuba Diving, Skin Diver. they all seem pretty much the same and are not useful at all. Seem to be just a collection of ads. and of rather one-sided ads at that.
They completely ignore northern divers. For them diving is only done in Florida and resorts...

The Cave Divers is a very good book, other things i enjoyed reading very much are the following:

Caverns measureless to man (Sheck Exley)
The Darkness Beckons (Martyn Farr & ?)
Blueprint for survival (Sheck Exley)
Deep into blue holes (Rob Palmer)
Technical diving handbook (Gary Gentile)
Physics of deeper diving ( ? )

And yes, Doing It Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving is
a MUST!

I agree the magazines you mentioned are garbage, when i get them in my mailbox it's a one way trip to the garbage can instantly.

DiveTraining Magazine is probably the best for content.

DIR by JJ is enlightening.
BluePrint for Survival is good if you are interested in cave diving.

Best thing to do is find a buddy who has skills, attitude
and (dare I say it?) equipment configuration you admire
and ask for some dive time.

Thanks for the reading list!
I just ordered the first -- DIR fundamentals. :) Can you imagine, in all of my PADI courses no one ever showed us backward kicks or a horisontal descent.

To keep with the cave theme:

*Beyond the Deep: Deadly Descent into the World's Most Treacherous Cave Bill Stone

takes them awhile to get to the meat of the book, but you need the introduction to everyone for later and once they get cooking wow!! If you've ever heard about him being so obsessed with the rebreather, this cave is the why for that. This and Exley's Caverns Measureless to Man are one of those rare books where the author is so passionate about something and can write well.... a real treat in both cases.

*Submerged Dan Lenihan

he ran the dive section of the National Park Service for 25 year, great book

*The Last Dive
*Deep Descent

The Cave Divers really rocked!

I hung on every chapter. Hafta check out some of those others. I liked Ocean Realm; if all you're getting is pretty photos, get the prettiest!
