All of these expert advices are good. I marvel at the difference in Air usage when I really motor to get somewhere fast. Like night & day and nothing really you can do about it. I hardly do that now anyway at my age...
 
Watch what the fish are doing - see which side of the reef/wreck they are on. The closer to the wreck/reef/wall you are, the less likely you are to be affected by currents (caveat that this does not necessarily apply to up/down currents pouring down a wall). Unless the current is continuous, you can also time your finning to be when there is a lull in the current or it surges in the opposite direction. A diver who doesn't time their kicks may make zero progress, while one that times their kicks could travel 2x the distance with the same amount of effort.
