True that it's still a crap shoot but my friends went there last year during the peak season, dove with about 10 over several runs out there (paid extra over the normal AI rate) and said that on one of them snorkelers came along and the sharks also cruised around near the surface. From Placencia the ride isn't as bad as from the Atolls but it's still over an hour. Avadon has a faster Newton dive boat that gets out there quickly. Ralph Capeling from Splash Divers in Placencia has a thread in the Belize forum where he's reporting the daily sightings thru their operation. That's who my friends dove with.

Realistically the only place that's guaranteed is the Georgia Aquarium...:D
