This picture is truly historical !!!!!!!!!

Where are all the expert double hose vintage divers who are experts in all things related to the history and function of diving ???

Shouldn't they step forward with the answer -- Who is this diver ? He some what resembles Cousteau ?

You never fail to amaze me and educate the world on the short history of self contained recreational diving

A picture of a diver who lead the way -- " Way before Cousteau" -- who's contributions have all but been forgotten by the diving public.

A man who was a modern pioneer in all aspects of self contained diving .

This picture is a silent document of some of his contributions :
*** A "Portable" UW camera (Takes 6 men and the mess cook to lift -But portable
*** A dive mask ( in his early activities he used googles)
*** A modern mouth piece (initially he used Fenez mouth pieces )
*** A Console of Submersible Pressure Gauges :
* One identified air remaining
* One identified air being consumed
*** High pressure cylinders....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also ...
***** Developed an early Spear gun (the horror of it all !!! --spearing fish! )
***** The concept of an exposure suit
****** Conducted SCUBA classes in 1937 - That was 79 years ago!
****** Wrote an early long forgotten book "The first to dive"
WHO WAS THIS LONG FORGOTTEN MAN?
SDM
Take another look...
Jean Alinat 21 juin 1917 - 19 juillet 2015
Un grand pionnier de la plongée sous marine né et enterré à Agde…il a été le bras droit du commandant Jacques-Yves Cousteau dans toutes ces entreprises…on lui doit les tables de plongée successives et aussi l’invention et la mise au point du Scaphandre Circuit Fermé O2 "Oxygers" utilisé par les Nageurs de Combat pendant plusieurs décennies…et beaucoup d'autres inventions...
What a great historical photograph !
A small boy possibly 3- 4 years old squeezed into his fathers dive equipment ...
Note:
*** the equalization bulbs on the mask
*** the front mounted snorkel
*** the lens inside the mask
*** the WW11 US MC K Bar knife tied to his side
*** the Churchill fins
This was a true photograph of the "way it was" in the beginning...
*** no instruction
*** no exposure suits
*** books or magazines
Just Fins, Mask, Snorkel and the trusty K bar
