Hello all: My family is planning a trip to Virgin Gorda this summer. Looking for information on dive operators there, and any insight into the possibility of shore dive locations. Given the limitations on shore dives, I tend to prefer them because of the ability to "do your own thing, on your own time." Both my daughter and I are PADI - AOW certified. Most of past diving in Key Largo and Grand Cayman.

Thanks for the input

Which resort will you be stay at while you are there?

I've dived with DiveBVI many times and really like the operation and everyone there. If there are any shore dives on the island....I'm sure they could help you out. They have a shop in Spanishtown and one up in Leverick Bay in North Gorda Sound.

We will be staying at Nail Bay Resort while there. Have not been to Virgin Gorda before, hence the question about dive operators and potential shore locations.

Just returned from 4 diving days in Grand Cayman. Used DiveTech there because of the shore diving convenience. Spent 2 days diving from their Turtle Farm location and 2 days from Cobalt Coast. 4 total days of pretty spectacular dives. Shallow but varied.

If you've never been there, you're in for a treat. It's a beautiful island.
I dove with Divebvi.
I thought they were very expensive, and I can't jump up and down over them..but they are still probably your best bet.
(Take lots of money)

Have fun. Be sure to dive the Rhone, as I'm sure you have already been told.

Mudman,

We spent 2 1/2 weeks on VG last summer and loved it! I prepared a word document for a friend who recently honeymooned there that I would be happy to send to you if you send me your email address. 10 of us learned to dive with http://www.divebvi.com/ out of Leverick Bay and found them to be a first class operation. All of our dives were boat dives and we did not hear of shore dives on VG, but I imagine it would be possible - I'd suggest checking with DiveBVI about the possibility of renting some of their equipment for that purpose. VG has some great beaches with snorkeling reefs just off shore. You have 3 beaches at Nail Bail, just south of there is Mahoe Bay, probably the best snorkeling beach on VG, and just south of there is the 3 mile, unihabited Savanah Bay.

We did 7 dives with DiveBVI and I prepared a trip report for www.Traveltalkonline.com that can be found here: http://www.traveltalkonline.com/for...d=allposts&Main=197498&Search=true#Post197498

I highly recommend "The Indians," "Shallow Chromis," and, of course, "The Wreck of the Rhone." We took some photos with disposable UW cameras and they are here:

You are going to have a great time on VG! Cheers, alashas

If you like swim throughs, the Blinders is a fun site. Sort of like doing the rocks of the Baths underwater (it's just around the corner from the Baths). I also liked Blonde Rock, it's out in the channel with stonger current but you can see different fish species there (sennet, cobia, sharks). The Rhone is a great night dive, probably the best time to dive it, although day is good too.

I don't think Black Forest is dived too often, but it has three species of black coral at around 70 ft and nice fish life.
