After MANY years as a comfortably successful independent instructor , I don't think the current industry CAN help independents. Everything is too tied to the pursuit of high volume. However potential independent instructors can certainly help themselves. Each instructor has a choice - either be a puppet that dances to the tune that makes the most money - - FOR THE PROFIT PIRATES - - or create your own destiny. An association of independents and like-minded instructors can create their own power base and control their own destiny. One option is the NATIONAL SCUBA INSTRUCTOR ALLIANCE - www.nsiausa.com and there is plenty of room for other .associations. You don't have to be big to provide quality AND be successful. The only one that can stop you is YOU.

You mean that instructors shouldn't be looking to make profits when they teach?

As stated on our website and in previous posts, our instructors find their own students, conduct ALL of the training, retain ALL of the training income, then after certification refer students to an affiliate facility for equipment. Our system has been around for MANY years - the background and philosophies are listed on the website.
