Corona del Mar? Went there once and vowed not to return. Sure the wave break blocks the waves, but parking is $15 and you can't get close to the rocks of the wave break for people fishing there. I swam around the shallow bare desert bottom and left.
 
I think Shaw's Cove is an excellent place for beginner divers; they do a lot of open water classes at this location. I also like Fisherman's cove which is easy entry and very beautiful as soon as you enter the water.
