Well we did the night dive and it was fantastic. We were really glad the shop found us an instructor to come along. He made sure we had back up lights and tank markers. He also knew to put a strobe at the bottom of the ascent line which was really needed.
The boat ride to the dive site was great as we watched the sunset over the Chicago skyline. Lots and lots of boats out, perfect temps, calm water and the most fantastic view. Only about a 1/2 hour ride. We went over signals and dive plan on the ride.
Four of us from our dive shop descended together. It was still a little light out so we had some light under water. The wreck was at about 30 feet. The wreck was the Flora Hill and it was scattered all over. Me and my husband were buddies. I guess the instructor watch us a while. He noticed we were comfortable in the water and OK, So he and the 4th person left us to do our own thing.
It got dark, and we continued to look in all kinds of nooks and cannies. Saw tons of crawfish, gobies, a couple of perch, some little silver, shiny fish. It was really neat. I did not feel uncomfortable at all. The temp was about 60 so it was warm and comfortable. Got close to an hour of bottom time.
Timing was perfect, for we surfaced just in time to see the fireworks from Navy Pier. I just floated in the water and watched.
The ride back was awesome. The skyline was lit up. We could see Navy Pier, Soldier Field, The Adler Planatarium, etc. The sky was so clear.
Really an amazing experience. Thanks to everyone for the replys.
