Any updates? Just curious.

Unit came back. Still disparity between the two sensors (one is stable, and the other still swings around). It dived to 1.5m on my kitchen table. Very disappointed. Discussions continue....

So in summary, the unit came back from "repair" and the faulty sensor is still swinging around.

The solution I was given : lock out the faulty sensor. I'm not sure what purpose there was in the "repair" therefore...

The X1 has a one year warranty, and is clearly not repairable. The Shearwater has a 2 year warranty (and even that can stretch, based on their focus on customer service), and their unit IS repairable. Quite a cost difference too (especially when firmware is taken into account as well).

Such a shame...

Not sure where you got the info that the X1 is discontinued. It is still listed on their site and was displayed at their booth at BTS a few months ago. If it has been discontinued, that is news to me. The company was recently bought by Huish Outdoors, so I guess changes can be expected.

Got an e-mail last week to dealer's: Only one more batch of X-1's will be made this fall.

Ok. Can you clarifiy whether they're discontinuing totally, pausing production for some reason but intending to resume making X1s as they exist now, or are planning for an X2 version at some point in the future?

All good questions. Unfortunately I don't think the news will be good for X1 users. The takeover of Liquivision by Huish usually means product consolidation. The X1 was already the redheaded stepchild. All development efforts went toward the Xen, Xeo, Lynx, etc. and they never did anything about replacing the X-Link with something new as Margaret had promised. The complaints people had about the non-replaceable battery were just more fuel to get rid of the X1. I have no idea why they would be doing another production run this fall. I've been an X1 user since the first preorder batch, and I actually have 2 of them. But with this news, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

iPhone. iTypo. iApologize.

I agree. I will purchase a Shearwater when my X-1 eventually dies.
Abandoning the X-link was unfortunate; mine is good to go now.....but I'll switch to shearwater when the time comes.

That's too bad. While I never really wanted one due to its obvious issues coupled with Liquivison's reputation for screwing early X1 adopters, the X1--completely potted, dual sensors, very small form factor, run any deco software you like--always struck me as the only interesting thing Liquivision ever made.

At least until their ultrasonic stuff came along, and that's being wasted as an A/I solution when it could be a to-die-for standalone beacon/receiver tool. Maybe Huish will take that tech in a different direction.
