You can mount a backplate on to the Ranger. I know that the BP/W setup is supposed to be more streamlined, but some of the people I've seen have so much crap on it they look bulkier than my Ranger.
I have no idea how it would feel having the backplate and doubles on the Ranger. I love how secure my Ranger feels and it does not shift what so ever, granted I only use singles, and the largest tank I've used was a steel 120.
You may want to look into the BP/W and keep your current BC for traveling and what not.
