Hey Halcyon User II-Fraying Wing Seam.

I am not sure if you guys had the same problem that I am being faced with.
After having weekend dives, I have seen that many frays come out from all area in Eclipse wing’s seam. The picture is worth than 100 words:

I have trimmed it several times, but the frays keep coming out all over the seam area. I am told that the Eclipse out-shell is a bulletproof materials though.

I had a chance to see Oxycheq Signature wings that has been used more than 40 times last weekend. But, I didn't see any frays from the Oxycheq wing.....

In addition, there is a stain in the STA panel, but it doesn’t go away. I tried to brushing it with tooth brush, but it doesn’t work… My halcyon rig. only saw the the freshwater so far. I rinsed my gear religiously after every dive. What is this?

Any insight will be helpful.
Thanks in advance,

No fraying on mine (but I only have 11 dives on it). There are some small whitish stains which I cannot remove on my STA at four points—right next to the tank straps.

I don't think you should trim these "fringes". It could be like cutting loose treads in a knitted sweater. Your pics is to close up for us to see if this is really a problem to bother with. As you know, your web will get weary pretty soon anyway, and it should. Why bother much if it's only "cosmetics"?

(I have an Eclipse 40, and I'm lovin' every minute I get to wear it!)

Because I am not sure if it is only matter of cosmetic and if I can enjoy the same amount time like yours.

I have about 40 dives with my eclipse wing and have never had a problem with freying. The pics are kind of close up and its a little difficult to see the extent of the damage. Halcyon is generally good when it comes to customer service...give them a call. GOOD LUCK!!

That looks like weight-belt type stuff. Is it? If so and you have enough room from meltable stuff on the wing, singe those ends with a lighter like you would the cut end of the harness.

Caution: Don't mess up your wing doing this. If you aren't 100% sure that that's nylon webbing and that you have enough room, just don't do it.

Carefully run a lighter under the frays and they'll go away.

My explorer wing had similar fraying.
I singed the ends and it didn't help as the fraying continued. It was exchanged by the dealer. Excellent service.

Hoosier,

Definitely take it over to your dealer. It should not be doing that. Singing with a lighter should work as well, but I'd have it checked by an authorized service rep to make sure there's not a defect in the manufacture. The good thing is it's only a shell that's fraying, not the air cell itself. So you are only dealing with the containing and protecting outside skin. As long as it doesn't fray to the point of losing integrity, it should be ok.

My STA has some slight marks that seem similar in appearance to yours. I don't know what it's from, but I don't think it's a big deal. All of our gear seems to get stained in one way or another...

What on earth did you do to your STA??
