I might be relocating from Orlando to Jacksonville in May, and was wondering if there are any active diving groups. In Orlando, there is a pretty active group of cave divers, so I wonder if there is anything similar up there.

Lots, you can get a feel for the area by stopping by the shops.Scubatiger and Aquifer would be your best bet for cave divers and other tech oriented stuff.Divers Supply has a few tech guys who come in as well.

As far as groups there are a few including the Jax reef research team and the Navy guys have one onbase I hear.Jax divers are predominatly spearfishermen, altho there are a number of photogs and just plain bubble blowers.

There are a few who dive year round, but mostly the season is just getting started.I had 71 degrees 50' to 80' vis on Wed in 130'.

I will be down in two weeks and diving from New Smyrna. Are visibilities often in this range for this area? I am planning on lower 70s, but how often / severe are there thermoclines? I believe we will be diving deeper (70-80') on wrecks a ways off the shore.

Thanks for the response. ADaM
