Happy Summer, Folks. Let's get right into it:

  1. June 26 (Thur): Thursday Night Dive at the Shores!
  2. June 28 (Sat): Farewell Dive and BBQ for Jason Painter
  3. July 6 (Sun): Cool (local) Dive Boat! 3-Tanks! No Profit!
  4. July 12 (Sat): Sun Harbor Marina Cleanup & BBQ!!!

Let me stop right here for a second. The Sun Harbor marina cleanup is gonna be huge. We'll dive in a place we've never dove before, we'll clean some debris off the bottom, we'll bar b q, and have a ton of fun. We need surface support as well. PLUS: Participants will get first crack at the next Scripps Canyon event. Oh my!

  1. July 13 (Sun): THE Costume Party Run
  2. July 13 (Sun): PICNIC! Sunday at the Cove...Diving / BBQ / Music by Rockola
  3. Photograph of the Month - July 2014
  4. July 24 (Thur): Roddenberry Adventures: Comic-Con Dive with Rod!
  5. July 30 (Wed): "Pizza and Pictures" Photography Series Event #4
  6. Opportunity drawing: Steel 100 Tank! (posted soon) (Power Scuba, as a non-profit org, exist on donations, so these opportunity drawings provide a fun easy way for you to throw us a few tax-deductible dollars now and then. Very much appreciated.)

And, of course, many more events to be posted. Many of you are asking for more local boat trips and we're looking into it as I write this. One thing is clear, there are hundreds of you that want to dive and we're right there with you.

Thanks to our amazing Organizers, without whom we wouldn't have half the events we do. Their selflessness is noteworthy. They're in it for the betterment of Power Scuba & their fellow divers and no other reason. Please give them a pat on the back and a "thank you" next time you see them. (We're always looking for a few more good men or women to help. It could be you! Contact Bill or Jonathan W if you want to join the fun!)

SAFETY NOTE
Our local San Diego dive community lost another diver this past weekend. It looks like it may have been a medical (vs dive) issue, but it never hurts to review our personal dive habits and seek to improve ourselves.

  • Everyone should have regular physicals (to include chest workups). I'm seeing a significant amount of stories wherein a dive accident revealed an underlying issue with heart disease, clogged arteries, etc.
  • Realize that a dive that seems "easy" or "beginner level" can easily turn dangerous with the advent of current, lazy gas management, or poor buddy procedures.
  • Even though we had an incident in March that should have been everyone's wakeup call, crew on our boat this past weekend noticed some attendees were blowing off their buddy checks, etc. No good, gang. Make the following a HABIT: 1)Pre-dive safety check 2)Air in your BC before you approach the entry point of a boat 3)Air turned on and regulators breathed on 4)Buddies enter the water one immediately after the other 5)Buddies stay together underwater.
  • Make it a point to get some additional training this summer. Everyone should be certed up through Rescue Diver. You'll be glad you did! (List of shops and instructors can be found here.)
