Hi:
I'm looking to buy a new UW camera. I'm thinking of the G16 yet is the G1x Mark II better UW? Is macro on the G1x still an issue? Appreciate any help.

Wayne

Canon G16 has a wider aperture 1.8 vs 2.0,
macro for g16 is 1cm vs 5cm
faster shooting 10 frames vs 5
Cost is less as is the cost of the housings from what I have seen.
G16 is lighter and slightly more compact

Without any closeup lenses I can get closer for macro to get finer shots.

The only things I like about the mkii is has a slightly larger wide angle at 24mm vs 28 and that the mkii has a larger sensor

You can see photos of my set up here on pages 2 an 3

I agree with ScubaLawrence.
The G16 is a winner in this case in terms of usability for underwater.
You could wait around for the Canon G7X: Canon G7X - Future star of Underwater Compacts?
The bundle for the G16 with the Fantasea housing is still the best value-for-money.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if Canon has plans to offer a different diffuser like they provide on there sx280? I've had the clip on diffuser and they're a pain, breaking and snagging on other cameras in the dive tank.

You really shouldn't be leaving your camera in the dive tank! #1 way to damage/ flood your housing/ gear. Rinse and go!

Wayne personally I would go with the G16. Good luck with your choice!
