When: Sunday, August 22, 2010, 3:30 p.m.
Where: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, Fort Lauderdale (map here)
What: For you wonderful ScubaBoard members who want to help baby turtles, please come to the training meeting this Sunday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale. It will be followed by a pot luck dinner.

Training will be provided by Sea Turtle Oversight Protection, S.T.O.P. Please visit the website, register as a volunteer (How To Help tab) and become familiar with it. You will be astounded by the videos on the site.

The meeting will give all the volunteers a chance to introduce ourselves to each other and discuss the website, protocols, data, resources, rules of posting information, and of course some fun and food with Friends New and Old.

Your help is DESPERATELY needed on all Broward beaches, but particularly Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale by the Sea. Once you see your first nest hatch, you will be addicted to helping the wee turtles!

As always with our gatherings - we like the POTLUCK - for it provides the sharing of food and drinks so all can enjoy because all have provided to the fare. Vegan dishes only please. This is easy, remember that rice and beans or chips and salsa or hummus and pita are vegan.

Send Debby a PM if you need some food ideas, or if you have any other questions, or difficulty registering on the website.

Please make your dish large enough to serve 10 people (with serving utensils) and 1 bottled beverage to add to the drink serving table. To conserve the Earth and reduce the landfill waste of our Potluck - please remember to bring a set of eating utensils for your self. Paper plates, Cups, and ICE will be on hand.

Please mention at the front gate that you are here for the Sea Turtle Oversight Protection metting and there will be no charge for entry to the park.

Thank You all for your help in making this the best Season Yet for Our Turtle and Our Program.

Best Regards
Richard WhiteCloud

Very cool! Will try to stop by after the scooter races. I LOVE turtles! It would be great to be able to help! Thanks for the info Debby.

You don't have to attend the meeting in order to help...if you miss the meeting, get in touch and I'll get you on a beach with a lead volunteer. :cool2:

Thanks much for this info, Debby.
My husband and I would like to attend to learn about the sea turtles.
Will bring a tray of little veg sandwiches
We're in Pompano (from Chicago) 'til the 27th.

Jeff Burnside's story is on the NBC6 website. Please spread this far and wide, and ask others to watch the video (even if they saw it on TV) and forward it to their friends and link it on their facebook page. The more web hits this gets, the easier it will be to get them to do more stories on this topic and add pressure to the violators.

Be sure to include a link back to http://SeaTurtleOP.org where they can watch updates, rescue video and real-time data from the beach.

Dear DebbY,
What kind of beverages do you suggest for the turtle hatchling training session scheduled for today at 3:30? We are bringing salsa and chips and honeydew melon.
