Hi,

We are 3 guys around 30 planning a trip jan/feb 2015

We are pretty new to diving. All Aowd and about 15 logged drives or so.
Have been different places. Egypt, Thailand(Koh Tao, Similans) and Great Barrier Reef.

Would like to see different things. Is it possible to do Pandan and Apo Reef. Then go to either Malapasqua or Dumaguete after that in 14 days?

Would going to Puerto Galera and then go Liveaboard to Apo Reef and Coron and other places be a good plan.

Thanks

If I have 15 days to spend I would concentrate on Visayas(Bohol, Dumaguete, Malapascua, Moalboal, Sogod Bay etc etc).
1. You can go to Pandan and Apo Reef and then Malapascua but you will waste precious time on travelling.
2. There are not that many liveaboards to Apo Reef and Coron. Contact Rags II for detail.

Apo reef is time consuming travel wise but worth it, great vis, plenty of pelagics.

Perhaps consider cutting down on the number of destinations and staying a little longer in each place.

Puerto Galera can easily suck up a good few days, diving is varied and cheap, lots of top side action. Make sure to dive Verde Island passage whilst there....

Only 15 dives, sounds like you are all only open water certified with quite limited experience.
Be careful that you select destinations within your skill and experience level.
Many of the dives in that part of the world are deep and frequently have challenging currents.
Maybe negotiate some extra training before or at the start of your trip
The last thing we want is a new thread in the accidents forum.

Thanks

We are all advanced open waters. But not not many dives after getting the certification.

Is planning more training in the first dives.
We are thinking Ona liveaboard for 8 days. Starting with brush up at Puerto Galera.

Could fly to Cebu instead, and then go Malapascua, Moalboal and Apo Island. Doing the easiest dives first getting skills toned.
But would going Malapascua and Dumaguete be to much traveling.

Thanks

Rasmus

Saw Ona moored close by today. It's a BIG bangka with rooms. Where does it sail out of and where does it go?

There aren't that many liveaboards running scheduled 8 days trip in Jan/Feb. Mid Mar to mid June to Tubattaha is probably the exception. Could be wrong here. You better start enquiring with the boat if you really have your mind set on the idea of liveaboard.
It will be a long journey from Malapascua to Dumaguete, should take min. of 7-9hrs. The scheduled fast ferry from Cebu to Dumaguete is the best, you can stretch your legs, but more expensive than the cramped public bus/ferry combination.

One thing with the Philippines is travelling from one place to another, even if you fly, is slow. You can write off a day for even minor destination movements.

I'd suggest spending some time on Cebu island (NOT the city which is the worst city of earth!) where you can at least get to Moalboal, Malapascua, a short boat to Dumagete and a few other places within range.

Apo Reef is miles away so maybe consider doing that first then relocating to Cebu.

Getting there is half the fun.
There is flight from Manila to San Jose and then by road to Pandan.
You can travel from Puerto Galera to Abra de Ilog by ferry(once a day) and then connection bus to Pandan.
If the sea is rough then your chance to Apo Reef is probably ZERO.

Hi,

We are thinking about doing a liveaboard from Moalboal for 6 days, then go up to Malapascua. Will give us plenty of diving and not to much traveling.
Anyone used the Savedra dive center in Moalboal.

Think we will do either Manila(Puerto Galera region) or Cebu region to avoid to much traveling.
