How long after I complete the SSI Open Water Diver class and pool time to I have to complete my checkout dives? What happens if this time passes?

I´m not quite sure of what the SSI standard indicates, but, at least in the school where I was certified (under SSI), the student has up to six months to do the check-out dives. After this, the student has to go through a Scuba Skills Update, and after the next six months the student has to go through the whole cuorse again.

You have up to 12 months to do the checkouts without redoing class. You should be required to get back in the pool to refresh after 6 months. Even after a couple of months, I think it would be a good idea to get back in the pool with your instructor.
