What a joke. It is "water resistant" to 100 meters, but you can only dive it to 40 meters? Apple thinks people SWIM to 100m, but only dive to 40m?

And "water resistance" is not permanent? LOLOL!!
Wow... that's pretty bad.

The product might be really aimed at 'divers', you know, not kind of diver that actually goes diving more often than twice every 3 years on vacation...

[Apple] installed an el-cheapo depth sensor that doesn't go below 44m because the feature is irrelevant for almost all AWU owners, and it was deemed good enough for the few target users…

Almost certainly false, although there's no way for any of us to know w/certainty.

Many cheap DCs have dive functionality far below 130', so obviously sensor price is not a limiting factor.

Also- don't forget the AWU has a titanium case, and sapphire crystal. They're not exactly cutting corners here, especially for something safety-related.

My dude, they clearly did. Not on the obvious shiny, but on the stuff that matters to almost noone* once the Dive Computer ✅ checkbox is checked.

But sure, you can also subscribe to the theory that they did it out of spite or cluelessness after splurging on a component they didn't want or need. It makes no sense but, sure, it's theoretically possible.

*) That's us, over here on Scubaboard.

I'm not hating on the product…

Ah- that must be why you called it:

…the new shi**y Apple 'dive computer'

Another example where the fanbois cannot distinguish between an accurate critique and "hate".

Taco Bell makes sh!tty Mexican food. I can say that and still love it. Just because I can both recognize and acknowledge that something is sh!tty does not necessarily mean that I hate it.

Recognizing and acknowledging that an AWU is a sh!tty dive computer does not mean I hate it. In this particular case, though, it does mean I wouldn't buy one to use as a dive computer.

You probably need to pick one of those.

Why? He said they clearly cut corners, and that it's theoretically possible they did it out of spite or cluelessness (as opposed to simple desire to maximize profits).

That doesn't seem mutually exclusive, at all.

Clearly you're not even aware that you're expressing an opinion.
