Well im new to scuba and as some of you know i have signed up for my cert class starting on nov 17th.

I only really have 1 fear. (well its not really a fear)

I call it the fear of "whats in the water". I mean i cant really explain it but i know live in florida and know that all i gotta really worry about is probably sharks. But i just sometimes stand at the pier that everyone fishes at and think "what the hells under this pier?" Then again i get scared to think about just jumping into that water with scuba gear on and looking. (not to say i would actually be doing scuba there) just a thought.

I know thereis probably tons of rods and reels down there and tons of stuff down there..

BUt i feel like scared of whats in the water.. Maybee cause its the bay and it seems dark and merkey? I have no idea.. Can someone enlighten me on their view of this.

Thanks ahead.. C rock

well the fear or not knowing won't last long. And if you finish your cert you will soon know that there is nothing to fear under water (as far as animals) just relax and enjoy what just might change your life forever, good luck.

I guess more an apprehension maybe. I think the more you get underwater the more comfortable you will be. It's something you are willing to face or not face. That's a decision you will have to make. I think once you have a few dives that you will be fine...It's a beautiful world.

When you get down there and see it, you'll see there is nothing to fear. It's probably the "not knowing what is there" that if frghtening. Imagination is much worse than the reality.

More or less the same stuff you have seen snorkeling. Only now you will be face to face with it all instead of watching from above and maybe diving down from time to time. Like everything else you will ease into it.

Now the mucky silty bottom of a lake is good reason to master buoyancy control!

couple things......1st of all, sharks won't be problem........2ndly, probably not a lot of R&Rs....#rdly, you'll probably be diving in 10 to 50 ft+ viz, more than adequate to calm any 'fears' you may have.......Good luck & have fun........

Why do people who fear heights then skydive, people who fear falling then free climb, people who fear insects study entomology and lastly but hardly exhaustive why do people who fear the water take up scuba diving. Beats me, perhaps for the same reason moths are drawn to a flame, perhaps macabre curiosity. N

Assuming you're not swimming around with a wounded, bleeding fish on a stick (spear fishing), and don't touch or corner anything, you'll be fine.

Nothing will bother you unless you look or smell like it's food, or you really **ss it off, corner it or confuse it (like wiggling your finger in front of an eel).

It's quite likely that the scariest thing you will ever see underwater will be some other scuba diver ...
