Hey...a french baguette can be deadly!!:14:

Whoa, now you two are just talking crazy. Dead-horse bread-beating is like combining scuba, beer-pong, tractor pulling, and cosmetic dentistry. These things just should not be attempted together.

Ok, save the baguette talk for a tec forum. And I think we should leave the French alone for a while on this board...

Why? What did the French ever do for us? Besides give us the parachute, the bycycle, the pencil, the metric system, the hot air balloon, the sewing machine, the concept of interchangable parts, the gyroscope, the guillotine, the electric iron, braille, the battery, mayonnaise, the barometer, rayon, the guy who came up with pasteurization, and a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure I'm overlooking?

And since this is a scuba board, tell me specifically what is it that the French have ever done for this activity? Huh, yeah, that's right, that's what I thought. So no, I won't leave them alone at all.

Anyone that looks at a snail and says...hmmm...lets put a cool name on this so people will eat it ...ah ha...escargot!!...cant be all bad.

I think I have digressed. Need more cafe:coffee:

I ask this because I am interested in getting certified in the spring, and after doing a ton of research, I have come to the conclusion that a BP/W makes more sense. It just looks more comfortable than being wrapped up in a blanket of a jacket style BC. I also like the portability of it over the bulky Jacket styles...

I have spoken to several places here locally that do classes and certifications, and when asking about gear, I bring up a BP/W and every time I have been told that they either don't carry them, or don't recommend them for those new to diving, because of their "complexity." I was shocked, because as far as I can tell, they look a hell of a lot more simple than having all that unnecessary material wrapped around you...

So any divers out there start on a BP/W over a jacket style? Any cert. agencies that this is more in tune with??

dkatchalov,

It's the cold up in this hemisphere that's doing it- people are indoors more, on the computer more and the mind begins to wander......

Now, what were we talking about? :icon5:

I don't see why a bp/w would be more task loading. It works just like any other bc.

If you use the rest of a "hogarthian" configuration I think task loading is reduced.

See, Mike, that is where I sit, really.

Half of me is agreeing with the others simply because it's just really draining to discuss things with touchy and easily rattled people like nick_w and I don't want to start any highschool drama.

I've never had problems with BP/W tech - it wasn't 'task loading', it wasn't 'hard' to understand, it wasn't 'complicated' and it really didn't take any time at all for the instructor to explain it to our class - but perhaps other people have this problem and when they jump in the water and subsequently feel task loaded.

I find it hard to believe it happens - but with the number of people diving that shouldn't be, it's not surprising. I guess I'm kind of giving people the benefit of the doubt to an extent, assuming it's way harder for other people than it was for me.

Do you find this to be true for yourself? Or is this line of thinking off base?
