I am going to be starting a small documentary on solo diving.

I am asking for any person that is an expert on this sport to be an adviser for me.

I really think that this sport needs to be shown how good the guys are that do this kind of diving and why they dive solo.
I want to show the world the true essence of solo diving in all of its aspects.

I thank you and wait for your advise..!

Shouldn't have to wait long. Everyone's an expert on SB....

From my experience, solo divers as a whole are less dialed in than team divers. It doesn't take any more special skill or knowledge to dive solo than it does to drive 100mph.... til things go sideways. Many of the guys I've known to solo were just lucky, as their skills and experience were less than ideal.

Hey, I'm already doing such a documentary! It's my dive log....

I've got a feeling your dive log might document solo diving pretty well, too.... :D

And so you are an expert on solo divers. :shakehead:

I will take lucky and alive vs dead and dialed in. :lotsalove:

To the OP, good luck with your video.

Dialed into what? The conventional wisdom that buddy diving is less dangerous than soloing.

If you are not a proponent of solo diving why are you posting in this sub forum?

I think a good place to start might be to work with spearfisherman. Within this group of divers, solo scuba spearfishing is more common than in the general diving population (at least in my experience).

I've been diving solo for years with hundreds of solo dives. Solo diving is not a big deal, especially for the more adventurous. I consider my time biking in Utah and backpacking in Wyoming and Denali more challenging. Solo diving is no more dangerous than solo hiking, mountain biking or flying in remote locations. After the Steve Fosset incident, no one is saying that flying an airplane solo is unsafe. Bottom line... No one would even care if it weren't for all the 'you're gonna die' hype from the inexperienced.

It's only natural for those with independent spirit to want to take off on their own - no matter what their passion.

Come on over to Miami and I'll take you out for a solo dive. Oops... I guess I could never happen...

I'm not feeling real "dialed in" today, think I'll go do a solo dive before I lose the feeling.

Buddy divers are so dependent and incomplete. I am amazed they are able to survive. Don't you hate having to partner with a buddy dependent diver? It is like being squeezed in a vice, smothered. They are constantly checking my air supply and asking me if I am OK, it gets real old real fast, about the 30th time I am asked if I am OK, I disappear into the blue. See ya. N

Oh, HELL no.... Where did you get that?

Any idiot can dive solo, but being a solo diver, in my mind, speaks of a level of experience, competency and skill which I haven't seen present in many/most of the solo dives I've witnessed.

In my mind, not everyone is cut out to be a diver. Of those who are, I don't believe there are many who have the unique skill set that would qualify them as solo diver.

I really think that this sport needs to be shown how good the guys are that do this kind of diving and why they dive solo.

I think it is a mistake to promote solo diving, especially to the general population. Yes, there are valid reasons (in my mind), for solo, but I don't feel it is for everyone. My experience tells me the state of solo diving is about as piss poor as the state of recreational diving.

Situational awareness, dive planning and risk potential, to name a few.

My first solo was in 1978, my last was 9 days ago and my next will be this weekend. I'm not a proponent of diving beyond ones capabilities and experience.
