I wanted to get peoples' opinions and feedback on these two wings. I'm having a tough time figuring out which would be the better choice for me.

In your experiences, which style do you find better and why?

The LCD 30 has a zipper, while the other does not. The Torus 26 has an air pocket that goes all the way around, as opposed to the L30, which is separated at the bottom.

Does any of this make a difference, ultimately, as to air getting trapped in the wing, perhaps? Is there anything I might be overlooking? I know both are fantastic wings, but I can only pick one. :D

Thanks in advance!

I wondered the same thing when I bought my DSS rig a couple years ago, as the BC I replaced would sometimes need some squeezing and contorting to get all the air out of it or to get air to properly balance itself between the two sides of the bladder. I ended up buying the horseshoe shaped wing and have had absolutely no problems with air trapping or not moving like it's supposed to. On the rare occasions when I have a lot of air in the wing and things seem out of balance, moving my head higher than the rest of my body for a few moments quickly fixes the problem. So, I'm not sure what other factors you're considering, but the donut shaped wing would be neither a selling point nor a drawback for me.

And, for what it's worth, I've never unzipped my zipper for any reason other than curiosity, so I wouldn't really care one way or other about that difference either.

They're both great wings.

I'd suggest just calling Tobin and getting whichever wing meets your lift needs.

That's a great suggestion. Tobin was super helpful when I bought my setup and could probably help you decide what's best for you pretty quickly.

I agree - get ahold of Tobin (or hold your breath and count to 10, chances are he'll pop onto this thread). The biggest consideration is whether you need 26lb or 30lb of lift. After that, everything else is fairly minor (the shape of the wing dictates where the air bubble will rest--do you need slightly more lift higher, or back towards your legs?).

The donut v. horseshoe issue is somewhat contested. I like donuts personally, as I think they make dumping gas easier (you don't trap gas on the right side of the wing). But most people will say it really doesn't matter.

Thanks guys, the highlights have been touched on.

Find the smallest lift that safely meets your needs, Horseshoe vs Donut is a distant second.

Ease of venting is primarily a function of the overall width of the wing. Wing width is a function of the wing capacity and the width of the center panel.

In actual use it is very uncommon for gas to transfer through the bottom arc of a donut wing. The bottom arc is between the lower end of the cylinder and the diver's rear end. It's the last part of a wing to fill with gas.

Transferring gas through the lower arc of a donut wing rrequires a distinct heads down attitude. Given that most venting takes place during ascents, and few ascents are made in a heads down position the lower arc seldom has gas in it.

Thanks for chiming in, Tobin. We've actually talked already, last year, and these were the two wings you recommended for me. Now just trying to figure out my preference. :)

Actually, now that I review our emails, it looks like I should go for the T26, based strictly on the lift. The donut doesn't look so bad either, now that I'm looking at the perspective of where the bubble would be.

Thanks for posting what I was going to answer. Saved my lazy butt from having to type too much. :D I got the LCD 30 and have never looked back, and love it. SS BP and HOG harness make it complete.
