I have been diving for a few months now and have about 30 dives under my belt and I was wondering if there is a trick out there to keep my mask from leaking where it rests on my mustache. Shaving off the mustache is out of the question, since I look like a dork:dork2: without it. Not that I don't look like one with it but you get the point. Any advise out there?

Vaseline or any other kind of petroleum jelly product should work.

you can get some silicon gels also that I found worked better than vaseline.

taking your razor and trimming the very top of your mustache under your nose (like the top 1/16" or 1/8") makes a huge difference also. You can't really tell it's been trimmed either since it's under your nose. give that a try.

I shave a bit right under the nose, then apply some silicon greaze. This has been discussed couple of times already, so you can use search option.

If you need to use a jelly you can use silicone or some types of chap stick.
Vaseline or any other kind of petroleum product is hard on silicone and can eventually break down the silicone.
I dove with a mustache for years and just got used to a small amount of water in the mask...saves on defog. You could try trimming down the mustache.

Lip Balm

Get a new mask....
I have a fairly heavy mustache & have found that shaving the top works, if you can remember to do so.
I switched my mask to a Scuba Pro crystal view & have had no leakage. I don't have to shave it or grease it....

d a pretty thick mustache. He used a layer of chap stick, then a thin layer of vas. He said it worked wonders.

I lower my mustache by 1/8" before diving. It gives just enough area for a good seal.
I did use the plain chapstick remedy but didn't like it on my mask skirt.

I used a non-purge mask for ten years before I dropped and shattered the lens. I always had a slight leak if I did not trim the 'stache and use chap stick. I purchased a purge mask and for me this solved the problem, or at least it is easier to get rid of the leakeage. Don't know how long the purge mechanism will last(the flapper). There is a good discusion on purge v non-purge masks on the board.
