Well, I think the people I was talking to either thought I'd find them wanting or felt like I was too "exalted" to want to dive with them . . . but shoot, on my bad days, I still have buoyancy control issues (although they aren't measured in meters any more, but just in feet). And I just nearly lost it in midwater because of vertigo . . . why would anybody think I was intimidating? I don't get it.

They're probably worried you'll steal their gas or spirit them off for medical experiments.

Well, I HAVE been known to catalyze people's assimilation . . .

TSandM was the name of our horse breeding operation -- named after our three cats, Tizzle, Squeeter and Mini. Now breeding horses is insane, but I don't think it's a perversion.

The question is would you dive with me?
Any time Lynne

It's the avatar, that's all :)

My wife did the first time she saw me put on that long glove, lube up, and stick my arm up a horses butt to my elbow.....

You have been reasonable, thoughtful, and respectful in all of your responses to my newbie questions.

My answer is yes - I would dive with you. But I am afraid that I would have to insist that you wear split fins and a SpareAir. As compensation, I would agree to wear a BP/W.

It's the avatar that scares people away!

Seriously though, some folks get intimidated by people with more experience than they have, it's just human nature. I feel it's wrong and it's a matter of personal confidence but maybe that's just me.
I would dive with you or anyone else but I would make sure to give you an accurate assessment of my skills and limitations beforehand and I would expect nothing less from any potential dive buddy.
My last dive was a boat dive and I hooked up with someone that had just recently been certified. She was kind of scared about being in the open ocean and we never went deeper than 30' and never saw the bottom but she told me in advance that she was nervous about it and that's totally cool with me.
I've had experience with a dive buddy that freaked out because he was scared and I'll take the cautious approach every time.

Lynne,

I would like to meet you, if diving ensued, great. I admire your educated, level headedness and the rare humility that is really so much a vital part of this sport/hobby. I have been in the Seattle dive scene since 1977 but only lately in the pro/business end of things. Our paths have probably crossed as I am at Seacrest almost every weekend unless diving elsewhere.

For the record, in April I will have been happily married for 20 years with 3 kids, so I am NOT hitting on you:)
