Has anyone ever just went over to the dos ojos cenote and just hired the guide at the site? I'm going over and the big guns that everyone talks about on the board dont seem to get back to me, so I'm looking for alternatives I guess. One of the dive masters at Akumal dive shop is a guide but I know his rep in cave diving. I dove with him in the ocean. I am headed to Akumal today. Thanks for the input. kev

My son and I did Dos Ojos with Aldora. All you do is meet at the ferry in the morning. Price includes the ferry, ground transportation, and two dives. We had a blast, Mateo is fantastic. I'll do this again my next visit to Cozumel, maybe a different cenote.

Good diving, Craig

Another plug for Aldora and Mateo -- a wonderful guide.

I'm late in posting this, so it's for others. IMO, the cavern guide who has the stand at the ejido entrance to Dos Ojos may not be the best way to go -- especially if you have never been in a cenote before. If you want to go down there on your own, Hidden Worlds, just to the south, has entrances to Dos Ojos and they are extremely reputable, have a much better attitude, and give a more thorough pre-dive briefing in English.

I'm pretty sure my wonderful cave diving buddy from my last trip down there, Jason Renoux, does some guiding. You couldn't ask for a more delightful companion for a day's diving. He's a beautiful diver, and very safety-minded, as well.

I've dived Dos Ojos a few times with private guides (booked in advance) and also with Hidden Worlds. If you don't want to book a guide in advance, I'd suggest you go to Hidden Worlds. You can also dive Dream Gate with Hidden Worlds. If you have non-divers with you there are other things for them to do there too - zipline, skycycle, cenote snorkel, etc. Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park Yucatan Mexico Riviera Maya

I've spent a lot of time in Akumal over the years. If you'll be ocean diving and want less people on the boat and not the 45 min rushed dive, had over to Akumal Dive Adventures on Half Moon Bay. If you want to dive out of Akumal Bay (for convenience as a day tripper), contact Natalie & Ivan. They use the Dive Center boats (the shop to the south of Lol Ha on the beach), but they are their own dive operator. If you want a good dinner (and a strong margarita) go to Cueva del Pescador. Unique Italian (everything homemade) go to Que Onda.

La Buena Vida (the bar/restaurant on Half Moon Bay) is having a big party tonight for their anniversary. Excellent band playing - Bandikoro.

We spent a week in Akumal a few years back and dove Cenotes with Dennis Weeks of Diablo Divers - Home. He's one of your fellow countrymen and cashed in his life in Canada to open up a Cave Diving operation in Mexico. He truly does what he loves and I really envy him for this. Theres really not alot of people that can say that.

At any rate....you will LOVE the Cenotes. Dos Ojos is really just a beginning. If you like them you should really come back for a week and do nothing but Cenotes with Dennis. Once he feels comfortable with your diving abilities he will take you to Cenotes that will leave you awestruck. I highly recommend it.
