An old trick you might try is to take a sealed bag of bottled water with you. When you need to check a gauge, sandwich the bag between the gauge and your mask. You can shine some light in from the side to help with the reading.

if I had to come up on a bag out there I'd have to wash out my drysuit if I made it back to shore without getting my head split open by a propeller
last time I was out on the line vis was so bad the only way back if you got off that line was up, vis was so bad I couldn't read my compass to know which way was back.
Following a line with 7mm neoprene gloves is not easy but I did it.
Hopefully my dry gloves will be here before this weekend and there will be at least 6" of vis. If I can get 6" of vis on the bottom I'll be happy.
