Hey, did anyone see this crazy dive? Underwater Ironing World Record Attempt in Key Largo: May 1, 2010

EXTREME UNDERWATER IRONING!
UWironing.jpg

What exactly is it? Originally pioneered by a group of Germans, it’s taking an ironing board and electric iron (minus the electricity of course) and setting it all up, some- where interesting on the bottom of the ocean and taking the photos to prove you did it. A group of British scuba divers have broken the world record for underwater ironing, braving water temperatures of just 41°F to carry out the attempt at the bottom of a 173-ft. quarry. They each had to iron one item of linen within a 10- minute time limit - and 86 of them completed the task under the watchful eye of adjudicators. The British surpassed the previous world record of 72 set in Melbourne, Australia, last year. Now it’s Key Largo’s turn to attempt to hold the world record!

I'm working and can't get the day off, but I hope a bunch of people go and take and post pictures!

I am pretty sure the iron's internals are just a a switch and heating element. It might work underwater.. short out and give you a jolt but I bet it would still heat up some. THey should plug them all in and try it. Really set a precedant.

Hey I am off that day! I'll come iron with the crew... all I need is a ride from here to there and a free hotel room for the weekend. I mean they want my help right...

$25.00 --- hmmm day trip? man that is a long way to iron UW although I can get my name in the record books....

Just curious, are you guys doing that on air or rather what's the dive profile for that?

Will have to see if my other half is willing to learn to dive. I don't even know how to set up an ironing board. I bought an iron on for a shirt one time. Followed all the instructions. It never said I had to take the shirt off my body to put the iron on on. Ouch that hurts.
