Diving with Nekton cancelled Help needed

I just got off the phone with a lady at Nekton and she denies that they are cancelling 6 weeks worth.....they are hoping to get the Rorqual back in service for the May 29 trip. Of course with the way their luck runs the boat will probably be stuck in port because of the oil slick in the Gulf.....

I must say my six week estimate was based on when they allow us to reschedule (starting 6/13 I believe). So who knows maybe they'll be up earlier. Sorry for the estimate, I guess 4-5 weeks is shorter that 6. I apologize for spreading information that may not have been entirely accurate.

Of course the hot tub STILL won't be working ("we need a part for it, but need to wait for dry dock to REALLY fix it"")

All I know is that if I had a trip cancelled and the Rorqual actually came back into service this summer, I'd be taking my extra free trip as a back-to-back with my rescheduled one. At least I know I'd get my trips that way!

I find it telling that even the previously fervent defenders of Nekton are becoming mute.

My sentiments exactly. Divengolf put it so well when he mentioned the inevitability of this occurring after years of complaints, many of which were attacked and picked apart on here. I don't relish in any of the crew being out of work (though it seems they've been somewhat unpaid for awhile) but the current situation and lack of forthcoming from this company does not surprise me. You would be an insane gambler to put any money down with this company right now especially without the ability to use a credit card.

My prediction is they will not come back from the brink as a dive boat at all. As much work needs to be done to those boats, it would more cost effective to buy a new boat. Contrary to popular belief there are other companies out there with boats in far superior condition and similar if not cheaper charters. Our one trip with Explorer Ventures was excellent from every aspect beginning with the booking and ending with a followup email afterward and it was cheaper than our trip on the Nekton pilot.

There have been many people over the years that have tried to warn others about the situation and for the most part were attacked and made out to be disgruntled. There is no doubt they were disgruntled but it didn't make what they said any less true. Instead of people stepping back and saying...gosh, could this person be telling the truth (especially given the numbers of people that tried to warn others by posting their experiences). If I had 1 person yelling fire, I might look around to verify before I ran out of the building. If I have 20 people yelling fire, I would run first and verify later.

I hope people that have paid their hard earned money get to take their trips and their trips are what they had hoped for.
