You don't just clip the spool or lock the reel? I generally let the spool just dangle there.

I do clip or lock it first before clipping it onto the stage, yes... but no, I don't just let it hang there while I'm stowing. We get some pretty wild currents in the Philippines, up, down, sideways, around. If you lose your SMB next stop can be the South China Sea. I wouldn't do it if I was in an area of high boat traffic (in case the SMB got hooked up), but that's not the case in the Verde Island passage

Or hand it off to a teammate momentarily

Usually my buddy will be doing the same thing at the same time, a few metres away. I prefer to keep a bit of distance, again currents, tangling SMB lines etc. Yes you could hand it off, that's just not the way we do it. Maybe it takes me longer to stow the hose to my satisfaction than it takes you :)

Cause Lord forbid you took the time (what, twenty seconds?) to just watch each other make the switches.

If you can't handle passing a spool between you and a buddy without causing issues, should you really be making 250'+ dives? IJS.

Because they can't just use the guy holding it as a visual reference?

Come do some blue water ascents with us off Canyons, you might change your mind

Interesting. I prefer to have one upline per team.

Lol, unlike you, I appear able to do the ascent without relying one someone else, while also knowing how and being able to make use of team resources when present. IJS.

Seriously, how bad of a diver does one have to be to fear getting uplines tangled? And why shoot two if you're planning to stick together? And the whole "I can't be bothered to watch my buddy switch" thing is beyond me.

Funny you should say that. I didn't stow the 50% reg to my satisfaction on my last two-bottle dive, so I'm going out early tomorrow morning for some polish.
