I walked into my LDS yesterday, and of course, I immediately spotted the display of Dive Training magazine, because the cover picture was someone descending into a cave. The article, written by someone named Jesse Cancelmo, is not about cave diving per se, but about the lessons he learned in his cave class that he thought were directly applicable to his open water diving. I thought it was a good article and made great points, and of course, had some nice photos.

And a funny story about that . . . the picture of the two divers getting ready on one of Edd's pontoon boats is a picture of two Seattle friends of mine. And they were alone on the boat, and had no idea that they were getting their picture taken until they saw it in the magazine!

I have been wanting to pick up that issue, another funny story on how it's a small world, I know Jesse's brother (non diver) who mentioned that Jesse's work made the cover of "some diving magazine." :D

was in Barnes & Noble today looking for Dive Training and it was the only dive magazine i couldnt find.

Dive Training is hard to find anywhere but dive shops (where it's generally free). It's a shame, because it's my second-favorite dive magazine, after Alert Diver. Other than those two, the rest of the print magazines on SCUBA have been really p**sing me off lately, with their cavalier attitude towards technical diving because it's the latest hot trend, often not even mentioning what additional training is required.

Which reminds me...My son should be getting it since he did OW last summer. But alas, I haven't seen any show up. Hmmmm. They do still get a year subscription, don't they?

Yeah. Good idea applying the constraints of overhead to rec.

Hope I can continue for another 30-40 yrs.

Gotta find that fountain.

I'd be writing to the mag and asking for a few years subscription in lieu of signing a model release if that were me.

I'll look up the article though, it sounds interesting.

I have a good friend who is a cave diver. He talked me into going out with his group to try it out. In one dive I learned all I needed to know about cave diving and that is that I don't need the extra expense or the experience of cave diving again. Although it was pleasant and I felt safe since I was diving with guys who had many years of experience diving the particular cave we were in I really didn't see the necessity of me doing it any more. I'll stick with ocean reefs and wrecks for now.
