Are the electrical outlets the same as here or is an adapter needed?

Even in countries that use 240 most have installed recepticles that will allow north American plugs to work. And most electronics are rated for 110/240 60/50 anyways

Occasionally, I come across a two prong receptacle. I take an adapter for plugging 3-prong devices into those older sockets.

Handy tip: Bring a single-outlet surge suppressor (Staples has 'em). I once blew out the recharger for my camlight batteries because of dirty power.

I totally agree with the first quote and find the second handy but not necessarily "must have"... I always travel with a 3/2 Prong Grounding Adapter such as this Amazon.com: 3 Prong to 2 prong grounding converter: Electronics that you can get at HD or Lowes... Small and one of those "just in case" items that can come in really handy...!

Good tips, thanks for posting. I probably would've never thought of that until it was too late.

I've another question, this thread might be a good place to ask.

How is the security at the hotel in Cozumel? Is it OK to leave your laptop on the desk while you're out diving?

I think I saw that a safe was available to the people staying there so the security of small valuables shouldn't be a concern.

I have only stayed there 1 time but had no problems with leaving a computer or other items in the open. Within reason of course. I wouldn't leave cash or credit cards laying out in the open. Oh, or my tooth brush, I have heard stories about that. :D

LOL :)

I'm not sure I want to know that story, but I'll be hiding my toothbrush now for sure!

Yes, take a converter. Most places have "U.S." recepticles but not all.
