You probably talked to Mel-having yet another bad day. Next time around find a new agency.

I just called the PDIC office to try and find out if my stuff even came through by email and the person who answered the phone proceeded to SCREAM at me because I DARED to call then threw the phone on the table. This is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS treatment. They now will not answer the phone.

I intend to acquire my PADI AOW cert just to avoid having to deal with them in the future. This is absolutely unacceptable. I would go so far as to say I'm being denied access to something I paid for, for no better reason than to be rude.

Aggie,

First, let me profusely and humbly apologize on behalf of every PDIC professional for the treatment you received from PDIC International headquarters. I wish that I could be of more help to you, but my relationship with the owners of the agency has been distant since I resigned from PDIC as the technical training director and accepted a position with PSAI. Unfortunately, incidents like you experienced aren't without precedent and played a large role in my decision to move on with my career. The advice about having your instructor attempt to resolve the lost card issue is probably the best way to go.

For now, I would contact the dive operators you plan to patron and explain the issue, direct them to this thread and contact your instructor in Costa Rica for confirmation of your certification. If you still have a log book presenting that might help. A temporary C-card can be issued from your instructor and is good for 30 days. Also, you may want to make arrangements with a local dive center willing to issue you a temporary or full C-card after refresher course.

Just wanted to post an update and a couple of thank you's.

My instructors from Costa Rica are working towards getting my certification transferred to another agency. They no longer work with PDIC because of a story that closely echos mine. This is there site. Costa Rica Diving

I want to say thank you to everyone who spoke with me and assisted me, especially since none of you are affiliated with PDIC any longer, and really did not HAVE to help in the least. There's also an instructor here in Texas that I need to thank, and will be calling/emailing again when this is all resolved to thank him, that is a PDIC instructor, and took time out of his day yesterday to assist me. I will omit his name publicly, simply because I don't want PDIC to make reprisals against him.

fwiw, while this thread was still young (around post #8, I think), I emailed PDIC suggesting they join this thread, in case they had a different story to tell.
Their silence speaks volumes to me.

I am not and never have been affilitated with PDIC.

Sounds like you had your fist experience with Mel. :shakehead:

Over the past two years I have emailed PDIC twice to try to get some answers to some questions about their policies for some research I was doing. I never got a response either time. I would not be expecting any responses in this case, either.

Yeah I don't really expect to hear a response to this unless I start threatening legal action. At this point I'm going to monitor my bank account balance VERY closely. If the card issue has not been resolved by the time my instructors from CR get confirmation a temp can be issued , I will send a request they do not process the card, and I will instruct my bank to hold any charges from them.

Sounds like you had your fist experience with Mel.

And my last one. I WILL find a new agency to deal with for ALL future dealings

Still no word from PDIC. Not even a "piss off" letter. I'll be mailing them my do not charge my card letter this evening.

Absolutely outrageous.

On a good note, thanks to bonsai diving in key west, silent world in key largo, and the good folks at dive costa rica, I will get to dive come the 16th and 17th!
