Here are photos of the plastic DIN plugs and the vented XS Scuba valve:View attachment 117227View attachment 117228I can't think of a disadvantage to the design of the metal plugs you're using, except when pressurized there's no way to relieve the pressure from the O ring except by unscrewing under pressure which could dislodge the O ring. The plastic plug has to be designed this way because the material is not strong enough to hold back the high pressure and could blow out otherwise.Adam
Ah Ha! I understand what you were referring to. Of course it would leak out the vent hole.

Having seen what a plastic plug can do when pressurized (akin to "hold my beer and watch this"), I've learned and switched everything to Stainless Steel, which actually protects the valve from deformation, holds in mix from bleeding away, and won't take your hand off. If you do, too, make sure you carry a wrench.

All the best, James

So the bottom line lesson learned is "if you hear a tank hissing, shut it down immediately?

Or is it dependent on the hissing? as in, "run away now"!

If I hear an O2 bottle hiss, I am gone - if alone. If someone else is with me, I think I'd toss it. It'd be my luck if I went overboard, someone else would toss it behind me. You just don't know how long the fuse is on that grenade.

So what do I put over the valve for my 40% + deco bottles?

Like I said, I keep my regs on them. They will hold the pressure and allow me to vent them.

I have been criticized for being lazy because I do this... but I agree. My regs stay on my deco bottle all the time, unless it's being filled.

ok. What about DAN O2 bottles? DAN does sell bottles in a Pelican brand plastic case, and those cases may help to prevent a problem. I have an O2 bottle that is not in such a case and part of me wants to get rid of it now.
