i use 1mm beany hood, similar to tropic beany mentioned earlier. the same as lulubelle, i always wet my hair before don my hood - here in tropics it helps to cool down as well :)

as for after diving, i am using Goldwell, Dualsenses Green Pure Repair 60sec Treatment, 200 ml: Amazon.de: Drogerie & Körperpflege. i use it everyday actually, as i swim in chlorine ladden public swimming pool.

during liveaboard, sometime i also applied Bodyshop Grapeseed Oil Hair: Hair Treatment after the last dive of the day.

i've heard about argan oil, but never seen anybody sells it here.

i like the vertical pony tail.
you still get split ends but it stays clear of the mask and you always know which way the current is.

I use an oil spray with sunscreen in the morning. I also use a tropical hood or a heavier hood, depending on the temperature of the water, to keep my hair covered and out of my way.
After diving, I wash and condition as usual.
My stylist says any conditioner or oil will help prior to getting in the salt water or pool and to also to always keep the hair covered when in the sun. I always wear a hat for my skin, anyway.
I have low lights in my hair ( a semi permanent color) and try to take care of my hair and skin. Far too much sun exposure when I was younger and I'm really really fair skinned, as in practically albino, which is why I have low lights. My hair is so blonde, it has no " highlights" without the lowlights.
My hair is really finely textured and is always getting under my mask. I'd love to get it braided isometime on a dive vacation, although it would probably pull and cause me to itch too much because of sensitive skin. Anybody ever try that before? I saw the braiders on Cozumel once.

The other day I forgot my beanie when doing a check-out dive, and I'm letting my bangs grow out so I look like a sheepdog. So I used my Buff headgear. I was worried that it would interfer with the mask strap or cause the mask to flood, but no problem.
I hate to ruin a $22 tubular scarf, but it worked in a pinch. Alas, I'm too curvy to do the Survivor girl tube top trick!
As for hair treatments, I started using Mane and Tail conditioner and shampoo back when my daughters were taking swimming lessons in chlorinated water. The conditioner is a leave-on type.
Of course, this is made for four-legged horses, not the seahorses!

I got my hair "plaited" once (in dozens of tiny braids) in Barbados. It was fun and pretty. Unfortunately, it did hurt to get it done, and it was itchy, and it was loosening up all over (from the root end) after about 3 days. Maybe it works better with ladies of African descent because they don't have as much oil in their hair, and it doesn't slip out of the braids as much?

I'm going to try a dive beanie on my upcoming trip. Thanks for the recommendations!

I got a buff for between dives too.

And then some sort of leave-in oil/conditioner.

I second the recommendation for using the slim headband with the rubber backing...and I use "It's a 10" Miracle leave-in spray. Paraben-free, no phosphates, cruelty-free, etc. I have long straight hair, so my hairdresser gave me a good tip to contain it, as a ponytail becomes a ratted mess. So now I buy the cheap knee-high hose, cut off the tops, and use them as ponytail holders. I start with the "main low ponytail" and then wrap a band every couple of inches. I usually loop the ends of my hair into the last band. This is definitely NOT a good look for SI, but it works so well. I don't have to use any kind of treatment at all and after the last dive, I spray in some of the leave-on and use a paddle brush (if the boat hasn't started moving yet...otherwise this step waits until I get back to land).

So basically you're containing your hair with multiple elastics? If so, I do this with hair elastics, but I find my hair still shifts around and gets ratty. (Not as much is in a braid, though.)

I have below shoulder length hair. I wear my hair in a loose scrunchie pony tail and in a hood. No breakage and no mask interference. After the last dive I rinse with fresh water and add a little conditioner to my hair and comb thru right away.....keeps from tearing and breaking of hair and provides moisture right away.....looks much better too until I'm able to shower and wash properly.

Yep. I'm not talented enough to braid my own hair...seriously :). The tops of the knee highs are "softer" and I've been able to pull them out of my hair easier, and make them tighter. My hair is straight, fine, and soft. So it's hard for me to get regular ponytail holders to stay when it's dry, much less with current, etc.

Yeah, I'm afraid I couldn't deal with the itching and pulling. I'm always itchy anyway with ultra -sensitive skin. But, it would be so easy and deal with all the fly aways under the mask and drysuit neck seal.
Looked at brand of oil I use with sunscreen. It's Redken. It's a really light spray with almost no scent. I use it daily during the summer and always apply a little extra if swimming or diving before getting wet.

Can you post a pic? I'm having trouble visualizing this but I think it might work for my baby-fine wavy hair. Scrunchies always come out when I put my hood on and the front and neck/back always get in the way of mask and neck seals.
