I love jumping into conversations like this :) While talking to Hog earlier today, we figured out the problem

They just came out with a new pricelist, and with all the new products, new pricing, old pricing, new part numbers, new SKUs, blah blah blah....the math was a LITTLE off on the service kits. Luckily, it wasn't on any of the other products as Chris and Jack did some very fast math on the other product columns. So you can rest assured EDGE/HOG is still the best priced dive gear on the market!

Now, getting to the kits and some of the confusion that is now cleaned up. There are 2 kits available. Buna and Viton. For those that can get the Viton o-rings Cheap - Buy the buna kits. On our site, we just finished editing and have the new pricing up for you guys. I think you will be more than happy with the revision to the initial error:

HOG Gear D1 Second Stage Service Kit - Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL

HOG Gear D1 First Stage Service Kit - Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL

Now, there was in fact a price increase, kinda seems the way of the land these days. There are 2 kit offerings now though to help aid in the price hike of what used to be just 1 product offering by Hog. This is somewhat where the confusion on the new pricelist came from. Thanks to you watch dogs out there, they figured it out and came out with killer pricing going forward.

Ooops, you might want to take a look at the page for the first stage service kit. You still can't select which kit. By default it has both selected.

You do realize that such a price increase may make others reluctant to drink the Kool-aid? AWAP had a better solution for less than $7 parts.

Perhaps AWAP is really the smartest guy in the room. . .

Perhaps he doesn't have all the information. . .

So, ok, what I see is HOG, which has been the champion of a nice reg at a good price moving into charging what SP and others do for parts....

I don't think that's quite fair. SP and others won't let you buy their parts at any price (and when they do, they're much more expensive than what Chris is proposing) though I do agree that the pricing is higher than I think it ought to be. That said we're all a captive audience until we can find a better source for parts. It's unfortunate, but it's still better than the alternative.

Sorry if it sounds I'm bashing HOG, I'm NOT. They offer a good reg at a great price and are very forward thinking in their allowing "owners" to service their own regs. I'm just concerned that they are getting away from their roots. I'll just say "remember who/what brought you to the dance..."

Fixed...Thanks Flyandive

As for parts kits...no matter what anyone thinks, parts aren't always as cheap as we would like them to be. Trust me, Hog isn't getting rich off screwing you guys on parts kits. Come on....the company does everything possible to bring you killer products at unbelievable pricing. Do you really think they are going to screw you over making a few bucks on a sevice kit? Prices go up, it's a fact....if Hog's kit prices are close to other manufacturers guess what....the regs are still cheaper! There aren't many people in this industry that fight so hard for the divers as Chris at Hog does. He isn't screwing you...cost is cost and freight is freight. If Chris could do it cheaper, based on what you know about his ENTIRE product line, pricing, and history...don't you think he would? I mean, come on guys....take a bit of his history into this. Stuff costs more....but it is STILL cheaper than alternatives and by a big %.

Wow, I can't believe this.

Look at DRIS pricing, $25 and $20 for 1st and 2nd stage kits are not unreasonable. they are compatible with what other manufactures are charging. HOG still let you buy the kit and service your own reg.

Then think about the entire situation, Chris/Edge/Hog is already offering some of the best performing gear at value pricing. If you ever even talk to Chris, you know he is not the kind of businessman that takes advantage of his customer. He needs to make a living too. Either way, you are still coming out on ffar top with Edge/HOG in terms of performance/cost. And imageine without HOG, you will be paying much more for the same performance and quality. I don't like price increase either, who does. But I absoulutely hate to see people turn their back to Chris just because he decided to raise price to cover his cost.
